i found this on charity’s blog. this is funny because since i have moved back home to arkansas, i am a bit taken aback by the accents. in san antonio there isnt much of a southern accent, even from the non hispanic population. there is a major difference from there and say dallas.

where i really notice it is in putting the “y” sound before the short “a” in words. my kids are picking this up and it drives me crazy. i am constantly trying to correct this in them.

luke: “where’s the tra-yash ca-yan”

me: “not tra-yash ca-yan, trash can”

phoebe: “mom, david hit me in the ba-yack”

me: “no not ba-yack”

phoebe: “yes he did!”

david hasnt picked it up so much as the other two have.

now i am really not picking at the local twang. you just have to remember i have been away from it for awhile. i still say “ya’ll” for the you plural and i am always “fixin” to go do something. and i am constantly putting a preposition at the end of a sentence. lol.
